MyStrands Social Player will automatically show you cover art, artists and song recommendations from over 6 million songs. You can enjoy free music previews and while doing that you will be connecting with friends and meet new people. The “Who’s Listening” feature will show you who else is tuning in to the same song. Found someone interesting? Well make a move, go for it. Send a message and start a conversation. Music can be funnier this way. Especially when traveling and feeling like working again.

All you need to do now is to download MyStrands Social Player and get used to it. It surely beats a regular MP3 player right?

Symbian Freeware : Call Filter Block Unwanted Calls

By afit on 4:37 PM

Symbian Phones have always offered a vast array of useful third party applications, and the Symbian CallFilter is no exception and a great addition to the useful line of Symbian based tools, and best of all its 100% completely free.

According to the developer the CallFilter application is released under the concept that software should be "Simple Yet Efficient" and they have definitely hit the nail on the head. The filtering rules on the Symbian CallFilter allow for easy blocking/unblocking of numbers found in your contacts list. Because the blocking and unblocking is done in real time it creates quick updates to your device instantaneously.

After installing the program I blocked several friends and had them call my number. Upon the rejected call being denied the program showed me an easy to access list of the rejected numbers and gave me the option to send the rejected number an SMS or use the call back function to immediately dial the rejected number back.

One main issue with the filter, you have to have the number in your contacts to block it. Of course the blocking issue is overcome by simply adding the number you want to reject to your contacts list.

Here is a quick recap of the devices capabilities from the programmer:
- Blocks unwanted calls
- Allows block/unblock calls on the go
- Maintains a log of rejected calls .. and allows to send an sms or make a call to the rejected caller immidiately !
- Best of all .... its Freeware

Panasonic SDR-SW20 Waterproof Flash Memory Camcorder with 10x Optical Zoom (Silver)

The new SDR-SW20 combines a rugged, compact body with waterproofing that allows use in water, including seawater, to a depth of five feet, shock-proofing that protects against drops from up to 4 feet, and a dust-proofing design that shuts out airborne dust particles that can lead to malfunction. With a design that protects it from water, dust, and impact, the SW20 is a versatile camcorder that can meet varying weather conditions and shooting environments.

For ease of shooting, the SW20 features 10x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch LCD screen and a new design for easy and comfortable shooting. It also has a grip designed so the user can stabilize the unit by bracing the elbow against the body as with conventional camcorders. In addition, a Sub Rec button on the front of the camera, makes it possible to shoot with a pistol-grip style.

The SW20 records to SD or SDHC memory cards, which further contributes to its compact design and also provides extended recording capability. A 16GB SDHC memory card allows up to approximately 13 hours, 20 minutes of recording.

Panasonic SDR-SW20 Highlights Designed
Waterproof up to a Depth of Five Feet Take the SW20 underwater as deep as five-feet and get some great video shots in the pool or ocean. Swim along with tropical fish, capture shots of a beautiful coral reef, or get action footage of a friend snorkeling. Waterproofing also means you can shoot in the rain or snow with no worries.

Shockproof up to Four Feet The SW20 is designed to resist damage even if dropped from a height of up to 1.2 meters. We fortified the outer body casing, making it thicker to improve rigidity and strength. Inside, we provided an intermediate resin chassis to cushion and protect the main circuit board and lens. This solid construction makes the SW20 our toughest camera yet.

Dust proof A dust proof design keeps the SW20 safe even if handled with dirty hands or used in a place with swirling dust. The SW20 is protected against sand too, so you can take it to the beach or sports field with no worries. And it's waterproof, so if the body gets dirty you can simply wash it off with water.

Compact Size and Cool Styling The SW20 is small enough to slip in a pocket or bag. Cool enough to take everywhere you go. This is one stylish camcorder you'll never want to be without.

Easy Shooting at High of Low Angles You can freely adjust the angle of the LCD monitor for comfortable viewing no matter how you're holding the camera. The SUB REC button on the side makes it easy to shoot when you're holding the camera low. The buttons are laid out simply and logically for easy one-hand operation.

High Picture Quality with a 2.7-inch Viewing Screen This model offers the High-Picture-Quality Wide Mode, which produces images that make for beautiful, dramatic viewing on a wide-screen TV. The image is processed on 16:9 area of the CCD. Because the image decoded has the same proportions as your wide-screen TV, there is virtually no picture quality degradation. You get beautiful images and all the excitement and dynamism on either a wide 16:9 screen TV or a conventional 4:3 TV. This model also features a wide 2.7-inch LCD, making it easier to frame shots when you're shooting in 16:9 mode. You can enjoy shooting wide, and viewing wide.

Pure Color Engine The Pure Color Engine converts the CCD output signal from a complementary color signal into an RGB signal at an early stage and extracts the low-frequency luminance component from the RGB signal. This innovative engine also achieves truly superb color reproduction for high-zoomed pictures.

High-quality MPEG 2 Engine Panasonic's MPEG2 engine is a wide-range, high-precision search engine that produces smooth, beautiful motion pictures. Because it precisely records the differences in each frame, it can render fast, complex motions - like those of athletes in the thick of the action - with exceptional precision.The MPEG2 engine also uses Variable Bit Rate technology that Panasonic developed for the high-end DIGA DVD recorder. Giving LP recordings nearly twice the resolution captured with previous Panasonic camcorders, this lets the camcorder record clear, smoothly flowing pictures.

10X Optical Zoom Distant subjects can be enlarged so they appear to be right up close. This allows dynamic shots of both motion and still pictures.

Shooting Functions

Power LCD Simply press the Power LCD button and the LCD becomes brighter, making it easier to see outdoors or in other bright locations. Also, a new scanning technology allows the LCD to show diagonal lines more sharply.

Select the Recording Mode to Match your Needs This unit records in VBR. VBR is an abbreviation for Variable Bit Rate. VBR recording automatically varies the bit rate (amount of data in a fixed time) depending on the subject being recorded. This means if a subject with sharp movements is recorded, the recording time is reduced.

One Touch Navigation and Easy Operation The cursor makes the camera much easier to use. You can handle a number of operations quickly and easily.

* Easy to use Design You can do most operations with a single finger.
* Direct Mode Dial Just rotate the dial with your fingertip to select the icon that corresponds to the mode you want.
* Simple Cursor Operation Press the center of the cursor to display icons on the screen.

Quick Search and Access with Thumbnail View Unlike videotape, you don't need to rewind or fast-forward to search for specific scenes. The camcorder LCD screen displays a list of the recorded scenes for quick and easy searching.

Easy On/Off reduces the time required for operating the camera. When you open the LCD, the power turns on. Shut it and the power turns off.

Quick Start mode helps shoot videos on the spur of the moment. This mode lets you shoot those not-to-be-missed scenes by turning on the power just 0.6 seconds from the time the LCD is opened.

Color Night View gives you smoothly flowing pictures even in dark places, where it's normally difficult to capture good shots.

World Timer Handy for travelers, this function makes it easy to set the camcorder time when you cross time zones and again when you return home. Simply select your destination from the displayed map, and the camcorder is automatically set for that time zone. The time for two different places can be set -- such as home and destination -- and you can switch between the times by simply pressing a button.

Editing and Networking

Storing on a DIGA If you have an MPEG2-compatible DIGA DVD recorder with an internal hard disk and SDHC/SD memory card slot, saving your images on the hard disk is as easy as inserting an SDHC/SD memory card into the slot. This saves space you'd otherwise need for storing the recording media, and makes playback easier. And once the data is on the hard disk, it's easy to copy it to a DVD disc.

Easy DVD Copying Connect the SW20 directly to a DVD burner via a USB cable. You can then copy recordings from the SDHC/SD Memory Card to a DVD disc with easy operation. The disc you make can be played on DVD players, so playback is easy too.

Includes Editing Software and USB 2.0
USB 2.0 compatibility lets you upload a motion picture data to a PC at high speed over a single USB cable.

You never have to finalize an SDHC or SD Memory Card, so you can transfer data to a PC right after you shoot. Just slip the card into the slot on the PC, and you're ready to upload and edit. The camera comes with MotionSD STUDIO software that lets you add music and words during editing or copy your recordings onto a DVD disc.

After announcing their buyout by Acer Computing it appears Eten is in no mood to slow down, the company announced several new cell phones this week, with a real cool development on their Eten DX900. The Eten DX900 is a dual sim card device that support 2G (GSM/EDGE) networks, and the high speed internet connection 3.5G (UMTS/HSDPA).

The phone was so impressive it was actually awarded the Best Choice of Computex Award 2008 for its innovation. So where's the innovation you may be asking yourself. It turns out the DX900 is the world’s first dual-SIM & dual standby Windows Mobile handset to support HSDPA and EDGE. Thanks to the dual sim card design users can use two sim cards which can be combined for a business and personal line, or users can choose to use one as a phone line and the other as a data line with a separate sim card.

Like other Eten devices in the past, the unit will also feature WiFi connectivity and will even sport a 3 mega pixel camera. Also, if you want to see your pictures or watch your videos that won't be a problem either, it turns out the Eten DX900 comes equipped with a staple of the Eten Glofiish series of recent devices, a VGA display output. So Viva Monogami!!

So how is Taipei this time of year? Is everything going as planned? How is Computex? Are those manufacturers really getting their best and newest products on display but ready to be properly released?

Mio just mentioned the LeapG50 at Computex. Besides the looks it offers a 400MHz processor, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Bluetooth. Wi-Fi is yet to be determined but I hope that’s a fully running option. The GPS is there too and a 2.0-megapixel camera will sure come in handy. The OS you asked? What did you expect? Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional is there to do the job. You might also want to know there’s the Spb Mobile Shell 2.0, MioMap 2008, and geotagging support already waiting for you.

What else is there? Well we’d like to know a price, official availability and possibly a worldwide release date.

Here are some of Nokia’s N96 awaited features:
• GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad band,
• WiFi, HSDPA and GPS support,
• DVB-H mobile tv support,
• Photo geo-tagging,
• Symbian S60 3rd edition FP2,
• 16GB memory,

• 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and dual LED flash.

Yahoo! Go v2.0

By afit on 4:45 PM

Yahoo! Go is optimized for the small screen of a mobile phone, making it easy and fun to access the Internet. Everything about the Yahoo! Go interface is designed to be both visually stunning and give you what you want with the fewest clicks possible.

At its core is the carousel, used to navigate intuitively among the various Yahoo! Go widgets: your own personal channels for email, local info & maps, news, sports, finance, entertainment, weather, Flickr photos and search. Simply use the carousel to scroll over to the widget you want. Since Yahoo! Go uses advanced caching and background loading technology, your widget content is automatically and continuously pushed to your phone, so it is always right there when you want it. You do not need to endure lengthy downloads or navigate loads of links to get to what you want.

All your Yahoo! emails, news, photos, and more on your phone, always up-to-date and ready for you.

Your world, now on your phone
Yahoo! Go truly brings the Internet to you. Unlike prior applications that attempt to force-feed a PC experience to your phone, Yahoo! Go has taken the Internet services you love and optimized them for the mobile experience.

So wherever you go, the information you rely on goes along, too. You can check your calendar or the weather, keep tabs on your teams, examine your stocks, and keep up with your favorite news sources, blogs and more from all across the Web. You can access all kinds of local news or get maps and directions to wherever you need to go.

Yahoo! Go knows what you like. The settings and content you selected in your Yahoo! account on your PC will automatically apply to your mobile experience - and vice-versa. If you’ve told Yahoo! which stocks to track, teams to follow, locations to remember, and that sort of thing, your phone will know all about it. All your personal info, including your contacts and email, remain in sync with your Yahoo! Web account. So even if you lose your phone, you won’t lose your data.

Open to the Internet
Yahoo! Go is all about you: your unique tastes, needs and interests. That’s why it lets you customize your experience with content from anywhere on the Web. Prefer to get your news from the BBC? Simply add its headlines to your News widget.

Yahoo! Go also makes it easy to get to other websites. Simply type in the name of a website you want to visit (like eBay), and oneSearch returns the link to the website. Click the link and you’re there.

The all-new Yahoo! oneSearch redefines mobile search to give you answers on the spot.

Mobile search redefined
Finally, mobile search that really works! Introducing Yahoo! oneSearch, a search experience that redefines search for the phone. It’s designed to give you instant answers—exactly what you need when you’re on the go. Yahoo! oneSearch understands the type of search you’re doing and optimises the results accordingly—so you get the answers you need instantly with just one click, right there on the page—all grouped by subject matter and relevance, so there’s no sea of links to wade through like with a PC search. It’s easy to read, scroll through, or drill down further if you want more details.

Moreover, oneSearch improves results based on both where you are in the application and where you are in the real world. For instance, launching a search for ‘eagles’ in Sports will return results for the professional football team first. Similarly, searching for a movie will yield showtimes in your area.

Even using oneSearch is a snap. There’s no need to navigate to a search box or even specify a category. Just start typing anywhere in Yahoo! Go. oneSearch even remembers your previous searches to speed things up.

YouTube Player is YouTube search/player application which featuring full FLV. Bit like the latest CorePlayer. It allows you to search for videos in a nice friendly Windows Mobile app and then plays the full FLV video (not miniscule MPEG4 versions) with its own player. The video player overlay is hacked out of TCPMP and the FLV part is based on FFMPEG.

Things planned: Support for YouTube logons, video uploads, user favorites and better caching/buffering.

Things not planned: Other video sites.
• Requirements:
* Windows Mobile 2003
* Windows Mobile 5.0
* Windows Mobile 6 Professional
Known issues:

- Square mode not quite right.
- Other character sets (Chinese etc.) don't work apparently.
- Close button sometimes takes a few pushes.

Everybody should note that this application will eat bandwidth, no consideration has been made for data consumed, so Wifi/ActiveSync or unlimited 3g only, be prepared for a big data bill otherwise. Won't work well on GPRS anyway as FLV vids are quite sizeable.

Qualcomm wants to go strong in the mobile world. They apparently plan to develop a handset which would be using the Windows Mobile 7 OS. And bare in mind that there are so many smartphones out there that haven’t even come close to upgrading to version 6.1 of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS.

The cited handset will possibly be powered up by a Snapdragon mobile CPU and it will be announced anytime during the CES 2009. We are to expect 3G and fast internet connection availability and a price as low as $299. We are also to expect a friendlier operating system which will offer you a laptop-like experience when using it. You’d better make sure your country supports Qualcomm processors or you will be buying it from overseas.

But we must wait for long to get this gadget. Qualcomm predicted in 2009 to lunch.

Motorola Q: New Idea From Motorola

By afit on 2:32 PM

Motorola Q Phone (Sprint)

Motorola's QWERTY keyboard equipped Q, formerly known as the RAZRberry in the rumor mills, might not exactly be the "BlackBerry killer" that many predicted, but it is certainly one of the most capable and user friendly smartphones available on the market today.

Based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone platform, the Q picks up the best features from Microsoft's Smartphone edition of Windows Mobile while still offering a lot of PDA-like capability and screen real estate on its 65k color, 320x240 pixel display.

In terms of hardware features, the Q's right side 3-way scroll wheel and dedicated back buttons take center stage. These give the Q user fast BlackBerry-like scrolling with the ability to select an item or return to the prior screen--all with the user's thumb. Of course you can still do these same things the traditional way by using the 5-way direction pad and the back button that sits to its right. There's also a dedicated home key as well as the red and green call control keys.

The Q's QWERTY keyboard is a bit stiff, but otherwise designed well. The dark keys serve double duty as the numeric keypad when the Option key (found left of the Z key) is used. The Option key can be locked on, as can the shift key on the opposite side of the keyboard. Along the bottom of the keyboard you'll find dedicated buttons for email, the 1.3-megapixel camera, and a dual-use key for the speaker-independent voice dialing system and speakerphone.

When it comes to hot features, though, the Q's EV-DO 3G data capability tops the list. When used in an EV-DO coverage area, the Q user can expect to get wireless data rates that approach those enjoyed by home DSL users. When there is no EV-DO coverage available, the Q will fall back to the slower 1xRTT data network (roughly comparable to a 56Kbps modem). The Q can also connect to a desktop PC with a USB or Bluetooth connection. Bluetooth can also be used with mono and stereo headsets, as well as other devices like keyboards.

While WiFi wireless access would have been a welcomed feature, it would have only led to even more strain on the already overtaxed battery. The standard capacity battery is capable of a respectable 5.5 hours of continuous talk time, but realistically will only provide a day of solid use, especially if the Q user takes advantage of the BlackBerry-like push email support. The push system can keep your Q lock step in sync with your corporate or home email inbox without any user intervention required. On top of email synchronization, it can also be used to synchronize the Q's contacts, calendar entries, tasks and other items with your home or office copy of Microsoft Outlook. It is somewhat eerie how you can enter a new contact or appointment on the Q and have it show up moments later in Outlook--or the other way around.

One of the great things about owning a smartphone is the ability to add 3rd party developed applications to the device. Since Windows Mobile 5.0 is quite popular, there are plenty such applications available both freely and for purchase. The Q has about 50MB of RAM for running applications, and a similar amount for storing data and the applications themselves. If you need more storage space, you can easily add a gigabyte or two by inserting a miniSD memory card into the Q's slot, located on the left edge of the device.

Samsung SGH-i620: Thinest Qwerty Smartphone

Samsung SGH-i620 Auto Vent Holder with Car Charger - Uses Gomadic TipExchange

* Windows Mobile 6 Standard

* Weight: 126g with battery
* RAM: 80Mb shared ROM/RAM memory
* Screen: 2.2" Colour TFT, 65k colours
* Resolution: QVGA, 320 x 240 pixel resolution
* Communications: 2100MHz 3G HSDPA, Triband 900/1800/1900 EDGE/GPRS/GSM
* Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP support

* Power Adapter: UK Mains Plug, included
* Battery: 1200mAh Lithium Ion

* Battery Talk Time: Up to 6hrs 30min, manufacturer's figures
* USB Interface: Mini USB
* Bundled applications: MS Office Viewer, PDF viewer, RSS reader
* MicroSD card slot
* QWERTY slide-down keyboard
* Five way navigation pad

There are two cameras on the SGH-i620, so this is a 3G phone like the i600. We also know that it supports tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900 MHz) and has a two megapixel camera with flash. There's a wide 320x240 pixel display too, which is a more practical arrangement for a smartphone than the typical "tall" display found on other phones.

Assuming that this is an updated slider version of the i600, we expect the Samsung i620 to support HSDPA (3.5G) data in addition to UMTS (3G). This should be a Windows Mobile 6.0 device with a wide range of supported multimedia formats, and this would mean that the SGH-i620 also comes with the usual array of Windows Mobile software. Stereo Bluetooth and microSD expandable memory are also to be expected. There are a lot of assumptions there - as yet there is no official word from Samsung as to the SGH-i620s exact technical specifications, and some of these could be wrong.

The design of the Samsung i620 is certainly appealing. If you're not using the QWERTY keyboard, then the simple controls allow access to most of the phone's functions without opening it up.. and if you want to type then the sliding keyboard is a no-compromise approach that may well give the best of both worlds.

Enables fast and clean user interface development for both graphical designers and code developers

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communication announced plans to release a new technology that, for the first time, bridges the Abobe® Flash Lite™ and Java ME™ development platforms. The new technology and tools, referred to as Project Capuchin, make it possible to combine the richness of Flash Lite and Java ME technologies allowing developers to utilize the best attributes of both software stacks to create content-rich mobile applications. Sony Ericsson has plans to make the technology available during the second half of 2008 and will demonstrate Project Capuchin enabled applications at the JavaOne Developer Event in San Francisco, May 6 – 9, booth 718 in the Pavilion.

“Sony Ericsson is excited to introduce our new bridging technology to the global developer community as it further strengthens our relationship with this community and underscores our ongoing commitment to support an open, healthy and thriving mobile ecosystem,” said Rikko Sakaguchi, SVP and Head of Portfolio and Proposition at Sony Ericsson. “We are dedicated to exploring opportunities that enable us to provide innovative and energized user experiences. To achieve this, we work with world class partners and technologies, on both platform and product development.”

Project Capuchin will provide developers with an intuitive tool to create applications with a cleaner user interface (UI) without sacrificing the strong, feature rich and widely deployed Java ME infrastructure, including secure, well-developed content distribution. Project Capuchin’s bridging software will empower two distinct developer communities to leverage their respective expertises to create the next generation of highly engaging and immersive mobile content.

“Adobe is pleased to support Sony Ericsson’s Project Capuchin. Using Adobe Flash technology as one part of this new bridging technology will ensure further innovation for mobile users when Flash developers gain access to the Java applications’ functionality and intelligence allowing them to create applications with the ultimate user experience,” said Gary Kovacs, general manager and vice president for Mobile and Devices at Adobe. “It is encouraging to see Sony Ericsson’s intention in making the technology available to the wider community.”

Project Capuchin will allow pure Flash Lite content to be encapsulated in Java ME applications with the help of Sony Ericsson Developer World tools, making content created by Adobe Flash technology appear as Java ME applications.

More advanced capabilities will allow Flash Lite technology to handle an entire presentation layer and make it possible to create Java ME applications where some or all UI components are defined in Flash.

In Google Developer Gathering, I/O in Fransisco, Google phone technology or Android showed in a mobile phone. Google doesn't said that gadget, but many people sure that gadget is HTC. Android feature that moment build-in Google Maps 2D and 3D view, Google Street View with complete zoom, PacMan game and Webkit Browser with future feature.

Google said, Android is open source operating system. And that moment is great time to many Android developers. Although Android demo used high-end gadget, but Android can implied in low-end gadget to.

Google doesn't explain when Android sold out in market. But many people predicted, last year Google ready to shipping it. Wanna 'taste' that gadget?

What is Android? (wikipedia)
Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. This early look at the Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android platform using the Java programming language.

Features:
Application framework enabling reuse and replacement of components
Dalvik virtual machine optimized for mobile devices
Integrated browser based on the open source WebKit engine
Optimized graphics powered by a custom 2D graphics library; 3D graphics based on the OpenGL ES 1.0 specification (hardware acceleration optional)
SQLite for structured data storage
Media support for common audio, video, and still image formats (MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AAC, AMR, JPG, PNG, GIF)
GSM Telephony (hardware dependent)
Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G, and WiFi (hardware dependent)
Camera, GPS, compass, and accelerometer (hardware dependent)
Rich development environment including a device emulator, tools for debugging, memory and performance profiling, and a plugin for the Eclipse IDE

Applications
Android will ship with a set of core applications including an email client, SMS program, calendar, maps, browser, contacts, and others. All applications are written using the Java programming language.

Applications Framework
Developers have full access to the same framework APIs used by the core applications. The application architecture is designed to simplify the reuse of components; any application can publish its capabilities and any other application may then make use of those capabilities (subject to security constraints enforced by the framework). This same mechanism allows components to be replaced by the user.

Underlying all applications is a set of services and systems, including:
A rich and extensible set of Views that can be used to build an application, including lists, grids, text boxes, buttons, and even an embeddable web browser
Content Providers that enable applications to access data from other applications (such as Contacts), or to share their own data
A Resource Manager, providing access to non-code resources such as localized strings, graphics, and layout files
A Notification Manager that enables all applications to display custom alerts in the status bar
An Activity Manager that manages the life cycle of applications and provides a common navigation backstack

Libraries
Android includes a set of C/C++ libraries used by various components of the Android system. These capabilities are exposed to developers through the Android application framework. Some of the core libraries are listed below:
System C library - a BSD-derived implementation of the standard C system library (libc), tuned for embedded Linux-based devices
Media Libraries - based on PacketVideo's OpenCORE; the libraries support playback and recording of many popular audio and video formats, as well as static image files, including MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AAC, AMR, JPG, and PNG
Surface Manager - manages access to the display subsystem and seamlessly composites 2D and 3D graphic layers from multiple applications
LibWebCore - a modern web browser engine which powers both the Android browser and an embeddable web view
SGL - the underlying 2D graphics engine
3D libraries - an implementation based on OpenGL ES 1.0 APIs; the libraries use either hardware 3D acceleration (where available) or the included, highly optimized 3D software rasterizer
FreeType - bitmap and vector font rendering
SQLite - a powerful and lightweight relational database engine available to all applications

Android Runtime
Android includes a set of core libraries that provides most of the functionality available in the core libraries of the Java programming language.

Every Android application runs in its own process, with its own instance of the Dalvik virtual machine. Dalvik has been written so that a device can run multiple VMs efficiently. The Dalvik VM executes files in the Dalvik Executable (.dex) format which is optimized for minimal memory footprint. The VM is register-based, and runs classes compiled by a Java language compiler that have been transformed into the .dex format by the included "dx" tool.

The Dalvik VM relies on the Linux kernel for underlying functionality such as threading and low-level memory management.

Linux Kernel
Android relies on Linux version 2.6 for core system services such as security, memory management, process management, network stack, and driver model. The kernel also acts as an abstraction layer between the hardware and the rest of the software stack.
